Rajasthan
is not only a desert but it is also a land of architectural
and historic wonders and wildlife. Touring the deserts
in Camels are the best options, as you start on an
exotic trip the moment you sit on its back. The romance
of a camel safari can not be compared with any other
safari.
So welcome aboard the
Ship of the Desert – Camel. Enjoy a safari on
Camel back, which adds a zing to your tour. As you
sit on its back, it takes you through the desert and
makes your trip more adventurous than ever. The trip
on a camel can be also called a trip of swaying; it
is some what like traveling in a ship in a turbulent
sea, only there is no water, just sand.
The Camel Safari in
India covers Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Bikaner. Located
in Rajasthan, these places prospered during the bygone
eras from trade. Illustrating this are the many palaces
and hawelis built by the rulers and merchants for
their comforts, the construction material usually
being sand stone.
Start in the morning
and venture into the desert. At first sight the desert
will look just like a vast area of sands dunes. But
as you go deeper, you can see the many colorful villages
dotting the desert. The traditional dresses of the
locals, adds a splash of color to the otherwise monotonous
surroundings. Visit the ancient mansions and palaces
of the rulers and get a view of the life they led.
Take a lunch break,
and have Indian local Cuisine cooked over a campfire.
After having lunch, during which time the camels also
fill their stomachs and set off again. The oasis in
the deserts is a pleasant sight after seeing just
sand dunes all around you. The camels let you get
off before they go to take their drink of water from
the oasis (you won’t want to be perched on a
camel with deep water surrounding you).
The narration of the
valor and bravery of the Rajputs and their various
battles by your guides etch a deep mark in your mind
and make the experience more memorable. As darkness
falls, set up camp and have your dinner with the setting
sun providing a picturesque backdrop (which is again
cooked over the camp fire). The sky filled with thousands
of twinkling stars looks like they are having a ball.
The local villagers entertain you with their traditional
dances, as you sit around a bon fire warming yourself
up. It’s the perfect way to end a day.
The climate in the Indian
deserts is extreme; the day time is blistering hot
while the nights are cold enough for you to wear warm
clothing.
You can take a safari
which has been organized by a tourism company which
includes your staying arrangements, food, water every
thing. But if you are very adventurous, then you can
make all arrangements yourself, without much difficulty.
People allergic
to dust or suffering from back pain are advised against
this safari. As a camel ride is not a very smooth
ride. It is something akin to a bumpy ride, and the
hard skin of the camel doesn’t help matters.
It is also advisable to take any medicines that would
be required, as deserts don’t have much shopping
complexes.
