| The
Indian Rhino was once able to roam the forests
freely and its population was not in danger.
But over the centuries the Indian Rhino has
been killed again and again for no fault of
theirs. The time came when the rhinos became
endangered, and finally conservationists decided
to take action. India is the home to the largest
number of the one Horned Rhino. Found in North-East
states of India and pockets along the Brahmaputra
river area, the Indian one-horned rhino weighs
more than 2 tons. Its skin lies folded on
its side and gives it the appearance of an
armour plate hide. Its horn is not really
a horn – it is just compressed hair!
The Rhinos have found their last refuge
in the Kaziranga National Park and Manas National
Park.
