WILDLIFE OF INDIA

India's unique topography explains the outstanding bio-diversity of India. The climate and vegetation ranges from the tropical to the temperate to the artic, which makes it home not only to Elephants, jackals and wild buffalo but also to Deer, Antelopes, Snow Leopard and Tigers. The habitats of many species overlap, but still each region has something exclusive to itself. While the rare Asiatic lions are found only in Western India, the north-east states of India are famous for their rhinoceros and the Hangul is found only in the valleys of Kashmir in North India.
Over 4.5% of India's land is covered by national parks and wildlife and bird sanctuaries. More than
• 30,000 species of insects
• Over 1200 species of birds in 2100 forms
• And around 350 mammal species

contribute to India's diverse wildlife base, making it the second largest in the world. With more than 80 national parks and 441 wildlife sanctuaries, India is an animal lover's delight.

Programs like "Project Tigers" and "Project Elephants" have reinforced the need for conservation and preservation of wild life. Due to the efforts of Project Tiger, India's population of the Royal Bengal Tigers (India's National Animal) is in a good position

The wildlife adventure opportunities offered by India is unique. The tropical forests, with their dense undergrowth, make visibility less clear, but still the adventurous Safaris give you the chance to see the wild animals in their natural habitat - tiger cubs playing around their mother, a lion majestically grooming himself or wild elephants playfully splashing water on themselves.
