| Animals in Similipal National Park: |
Similipal National Park has more than 22 species of
animals and several varieties of reptiles as its residents.
Also a Tiger Reserve, more than 95 tigers roam the
lush forest there, which in itself is a good example
of the success of Project Tiger. Apart from the Tiger,
Leopards, elephants and wild dogs can be spotted.
Several types of Deer and Antelopes like the Sambar,
Chital, Chausingha and Mouse deer roam the forests
and form a vital part of the predator’s diet.
Along with these, Gaur, Wild Pig, Giant Squirrel,
Langur, and the Rhesus Macaque are sheltered by
the dense forest cover. Hyena and the Jackal make
up the family of scavengers.
The Pangolin has evolved mouth parts which help
it to eat the ants and termites. With its long sticky
tongue and powerful claws, it has the capability
of ripping stone-hard termite mounts. Another resident
of the park, the sloth bear also feasts on ants
and termites, but it also eats wild fruit and roots.
The reptilian population includes the muggers or
the marsh crocodiles, the Pythons and numerous other
reptiles. Over 231 species of birds people the forest
and water ways in the park.

| The Flora of Similipal National Park: |
|
The diversity in the topography of the land and its
variation in climatic conditions, has led to the flourishing
flora and fauna. A perfect combination of enchanting
lush-green valleys and forests the National Park is
an epitome of natural beauty.
The unique geographical qualities lead to a perennial
water source, enhanced by the 2500 ml of annual
rain it receives. The variation in topography is
so diverse that the flora ranges from semi-green
to dry deciduous, Sal trees share space with Orchids
and the whole park is sprinkled with grassy meadows.
